its good advice, what you’re describing is kind of called ‘consultative’ sales, less pushy, more ‘business development’ and strategy focused, its a good way to sell, but only for certain instances, since it takes time and requires you to have domain expertise – so you’ll see it with financial planning sales e.g. selling you a pension, you won’t see it so much with commission based sales at the furniture store.
