Startup Decision-Making Hell: Why Can’t I Just Make Up My Damn Mind?

indecision tends to come from uncertainty and related to that your comfort with the down-side risk of that uncertainty.

for example, if the upside is gain 1bn dollars, and the downside is lose your house, and you need to make a single decision with those two outcomes, then identifying the factors that you need to mitigate the risk of is fairly straight forwards.

you’re dealing with known variables.

but the issue is, real life is much more complex than that. the decision also have 2nd and 3rd degree implications which you may or may not know about, so clear decision making is hard since the implications are severe as well as complex to identify, and the factors that affect the probability of success are equally as complex and unknown.

so before you even start using decision tools, you actually need to break down the problem and its issues into smaller components to prioritise and evaluate before you can even start the process of using these decision tools.
